My name is John C Pak, a Certified Financial Planner™ and founder of Otium Advisory Group. My mission is to share my unique, yet simple brand of financial minimalism with busy professionals who do not have the time to eat a proper lunch, let alone plan out their financial future. I will help you create simple solutions that are devoid of complications and complexities, filtering out unncessary noise.

Aside from my life-long devotion to personal finance, my other passion point is teaching. You can find me presenting retirement courses at CSU OLLI one day to conducting pro-bono workshops at a Los Angeles Public library the next day. I believe…

“OTIUM” is Latin for leisure, spare time, holiday, or ease. This special stage allows you to do the things you want to do, not need to do - more time with family, traveling, or life passions. It is our goal to get you to there.

Looking back at 18 years of being in the financial advisory industry, the takeaway from my corporate experience working for banks, brokerage shops and wire-houses is this: Customers who need the most financial assistance do not receive the attention and guidance they deserve. Truth is, most Americans do not have an established investment portfolio, let alone a portfolio that meets the industry’s minimum asset balance threshold. The majority need help with cash flow management, debt management, and retirement planning, but these same customers end up encountering financial advisors who are in the business of managing existing wealth. Try getting the attention of a high quality financial advisor when you have nothing to invest.

Another observation – financial planning may lead to the recommendation of an investment or an insurance product, but attempting to lead with the products as a panacea for all problems or a one size fits all solution is a very common industry practice that I was not comfortable engaging in.

That’s why I started this firm. The majority need practical solutions and not all solutions require you to be wealthy right off the bat.
