As a fiduciary financial planner, you can feel confident in knowing that I am always working in your best interest to provide conflict-free advice. - Scott Snider, CRPC®, CFP®

Scott Snider is a Fee-Only Financial Planner serving the Columbus, OH and Jacksonville, FL areas and works with clients across the country regardless of location.  Mellen Money Management LLC started with the idea of providing clients conflict-free advice, with an emphasis on life transitions and how those key moments impact investible assets and household finances. The firm specializes in working with clients to implement better college planning solutions, both in terms of managing tuition costs and paying off student debt.  Scott Snider is a fiduciary financial planner.

Second to my wife, family, and friends...  Making meaningful connections with people and solving financial problems are two of my passions in life. Ever since I witnessed the stressful impact the dot-com market crash had on home-life as a kid, I had a dream of breaking into the financial services industry. I was confident I could leverage my analytical talent and passion for helping people towards reducing a family's financial regrets. I am proud to say I have worked as a financial advisor for more than 10 years, and don't know how I could be doing anything else.

This passion has steered me in many directions. More recently it's lead me to focus on a societal issue delaying the lives of many hard working families. At the moment our country is saddled with $1.4-trillion in student loan debt. Unfortunately, it's an elephant in the room most of us have ignored for way too long. Rather than bury my head in the sand, I made a conscious decision to start a financial practice that helps young professionals overcome their student debt, and empowers families with college-bound children to avoid getting consumed by the student loan trap.  Too often the cost of college is competing with other financial priorities, and juggling all those pieces can be a daunting task.  Everyday problems like saving enough for retirement, having money saved for a rainy day, minimizing debt, owning a house, or selecting the best healthcare plan for your family.

To put the issue into perspective, the amount of money required to eventually pay off student loans, especially for advanced professional degrees in Medicine and Law, is often more costly than purchasing a first home.  When I thought about it this way, it dawned on me...  Why aren't these really well-educated people doing more careful planning?  Why aren't more advisors offering a comprehensive service that is the root many financial problems?  This is how Mellen Money Management got started.  With proper guidance, student loan borrowers and parents with college-bound children gain the assurance needed to maximize their financial resources across the board.

Scott Snider's fiduciary obligation is governed by:

  • XY Planning Network
  • National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA)
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

We are a fee-only financial planning firm that services the Jacksonville, FL and Columbus, OH markets and works with clients across the country regardless of location.  Having spent much of his career advising $44-million in client assets for a large regional bank, founder, Scott Snider, broke away to start Mellen Money Management. Scott began with the idea of providing clients conflict-free advice, with an emphasis on life transitions and how those key moments impact investible assets and household finances.

As a CFP®, Scott offers full-service financial planning to his clients. However, with the astronomical spike in the cost of college, Scott wanted to be a part of solving the problem. This led him to develop a specialized expertise in the area of college planning. Scott helps individuals and families navigate the many hidden pitfalls rife with the cost of college -- a very expensive proposition for anyone lacking a proactive plan. Most planners show clients how to save for college, unfortunately, most do not offer solutions towards reducing out of pocket expenses, both in terms of tuition and student loans. Thankfully, Mellen Money Management does!

Mellen Money Management was named after Scott's grandparents, the ones who helped pave his way to an affordable college education. Without their generosity, Scott would be saddled with the same student debt issue burdening many families today.  Scott's grandparents' lifetime of generosity has inspired and shaped this organization, and, hoping to follow in their footsteps, he is working to make the cost of higher learning easier to manage. So that their legacy is always remembered, Mellen Money Management pledges to donate 2% of company profits towards funding research to make higher learning more affordable for future generations.
